Host an Exchange Student
Why Host with NWSE?
NorthWest Student Exchange (NWSE) offers quality student exchange programs since 1987.
NWSE is a U.S. Department of State-designated student exchange program and is listed with the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel (CSIET).
NWSE carefully screens exchange students and host families and works to make a good match. We are committed to providing individual attention and support to our exchange students and host families. Our experienced local coordinators and program staff work together to help make the exchange experience successful. You will always have someone to reach out to for assistance and guidance.
By hosting an NWSE exchange student, you become part of the NWSE family and have the opportunity to build an international friendship that can last for many years.
Become an NWSE Host Family
NWSE matches you to your student by conducting interviews and evaluating references, hobbies, personality traits, and essays to help ensure that you have a great experience. NWSE exchange students are eager to travel to the USA, meet you, and immerse themselves in our American way of life. Your exchange student will join you for your normal family activities, attend the local high school, and take part in extracurricular activities with their classmates. NWSE program coordinators have experience living or studying abroad, often on exchange programs. Our local coordinators have hosted many exchange students themselves. We firmly believe in the potential of our programs to build international friendship and understanding as well as provide unparalleled opportunity for intercultural learning and personal growth.
Hosting an exchange student is an opportunity to make a difference in the life of a young person while bringing the world into your own home. You don’t have to have children. You don’t have to travel. You don’t have to provide constant entertainment or expensive vacations. You simply need to be willing to open your home, share your daily life, and learn from another culture.
By hosting an NWSE exchange student, you can give a young person the opportunity to experience an American family, school, and community—and you may gain new friendships, new perspectives, and a lasting international connection in return.
By the end of the school year, the hardest thing about hosting your exchange student is saying goodbye! Host families and students generally stay in close tough for years to come.
How it works:
- Register as a host family (without commitment)
- An NWSE representative contacts you to provide detailed information about hosting and answer any questions you may have
- Complete the NWSE application process, including the host family interview and background check
- NWSE introduces you to your exchange student
- Pick up your student at the airport to begin your exchange!
