By hosting an exchange student, the world comes to you! Hosting an international student is a wonderful opportunity to share your culture with a student from another country, as well as to experience international culture without leaving home. Your family can explore new customs, food, and perspectives by hosting an exchange student. Because distances between countries and cultures are ever shrinking, it becomes even more important to make international friends, and become participating members of our global village. Hosting an international student basis brings friendship, hospitality and understanding on an international level into your home. In general, host families are voluntary and not compensated for hosting exchange students.
Having a new family member who shares your family's
interests is fun! Exchange students are eager to
become a true member of their new family, school
and community. Each student has a lot to offer.
You can introduce your exchange student to your
culture by encouraging him or her to take part in
school activities such as a sports events, dances,
clubs, drama, as well as a county fair or local
and regional festivals. Many host families become
lifelong friends with their exchange students,
and actually end up visiting them in their home
countries. Your children also have the
opportunity to learn another language or improve
upon a language they are already studying!
